1846 Large Cent – Small Date. The 1846 Small Date variety is a popular issue among collectors of early U.S. copper coinage and is distinguished by the smaller, more compact numerals in the date compared to the Large Date variety. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the obverse features Liberty with braided hair, while the reverse displays a simple agricultural wreath surrounding the denomination. Struck from nearly pure copper, Large Cents circulated extensively throughout the mid-19th century and remain an important part of early American numismatic history. This Small Date example offers an excellent opportunity to add a desirable Red Book variety to any Large Cent collection.
