Set 8 Samson of Paris Balloon Plates & Borders

Set of eight porcelain cabinet plates by Samson of Paris. Each plate features a hand-painted central vignette depicting historic hot air balloon ascents from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The vignettes are accompanied by Frenchinscriptions on hand-painted ribbon banners. The decorative borders consist of a gilded laurel wreath design on a white ground with a scalloped and gilded rim. The underside of each piece bears a blue underglaze mark consisting of crossedlines with four dots, consistent with the Samson factory production. 10 inches round.These plates show expected wear consistent with their age and use. One plate features a small nick to the rim. The gilded borders show minor thinning and light surface marks from stacking.
