JAR OF THE MING DYNASTY. <br>H:23cm W:30.5cm This is a large blue-and-white jar of Ming Dynasty, with short straight mouth, broad shoulder, plump round belly and tapering lower body supported by shallow ring foot. It is covered with soft pale cyan white glaze, decorated with layered cobalt patterns: scrolling vines around the rim, while the main body depicts two lions frolicking with an embroidered ball, with fluffy manes and flowing silk ribbons rendered in vivid lively brushwork. Double cobalt lines encircle the base. The cobalt blue carries soft tone with unrestrained primitive painting lines. Lion patterns symbolize warding off evil spirits and attracting good fortune.
