WARRIORS FROM THE NORTHERN DYNASTIES.
L:13.5cm H:41cm This painted pottery warrior figurine of Northern Dynasties is molded in separate grey clay pieces then assembled, fully decorated with cinnabar red mineral pigments. The warrior wears an ear-protecting battle helmet, with fierce eyes, thick brows and short beard outlined in black ink, presenting an imposing ferocious expression. He is dressed in round-collar battle robe decorated with cloud armor patterns on chest and sleeves, tied with a waist sash, and fish-scale leg guards painted below. His left hand rests on a long painted shield, while his right fist originally held a weapon (now lost), standing straight and solemn. Warrior figurines of this type are tomb guardian burial wares, meant to protect the deceased and ward off evil spirits, mirroring the war-torn, martial-focused social atmosphere of Northern Dynasties. The rough concise painted lines and robust sculptural form make it a vital artifact for researching Northern Dynasties military costume, pottery craft and funeral customs
ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.

Additional photographs and condition reports may be provided upon request as a courtesy only.
