Antique illustrated page from the Canadian Illustrated News, dated August 31, 1878, depicting the “Grand Trunk Regatta, Opposite Nun’s Island.” The three detailed scenes are captioned “Swimming Match,” “Rowing Match,” and “Girls’ Match,” providing an interesting visual record of competitive aquatic sports in 19th-century Canada. An attractive piece of Canadian, Montreal and sporting history, particularly appealing to collectors of early rowing, regatta and railway-related material. Appears to be an original period illustrated newspaper page rather than a modern decorative print. Presented under glass with matting in a gilt-tone frame. Approximately 21" x 16" overall. Some age-related toning and minor wear; frame shows light wear.
