Description: Antique Fairbanks cast iron countertop balance scale with brass graduated beam and two hanging poise weights. The beam is marked "Fairbanks", and the scale measures approximately 19 inches long x 9 inches tall. This style of merchant’s balance scale was commonly used in general stores, groceries, markets, and pharmacies during the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1920. Features a heavy cast iron base and platform with an attractive aged patina, making it an excellent display piece for country store, mercantile, or advertising collections. Condition: Shows surface rust, paint loss, oxidation, and wear consistent with age and use. Includes the two sliding poise weights shown. Untested for weighing accuracy or calibration.
