HICKORY CHAIR MAHOGANY FEDERAL SIDEBOARD BUFFET

NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > Measuring 68" long × 40.5" tall × 22.5" deep overall at the projecting center curve, this substantial mahogany sideboard was produced by Hickory Chair Company of Hickory, North Carolina as part of the historic James River Collection. The sideboard is arranged with three upper drawers above four lower cabinet doors. A broad central drawer follows the gently bowed front and is fitted with two oval brass ring pulls, while the smaller flanking drawers each carry a matching single pull. Below, the paired center doors open to a wide interior storage compartment, accompanied by separate cabinets at either end for serving pieces, table linens, china or related dining-room storage. Federal and Hepplewhite influences are expressed through the long elevated case, restrained proportions, slender square tapered legs and gracefully bowed center section. Contrasting figured wood panels and narrow light wood banding define the drawer and door fronts, creating the refined geometric surface decoration associated with late 18th and early 19th century Federal cabinetmaking. Fine line inlay also accents the case divisions and legs, while reeded corner blocks and oval brass hardware complete the period-inspired presentation. The richly figured mahogany veneers are especially prominent across the broad center doors and drawer fronts, where the shifting grain produces a warm, formal appearance. The balanced arrangement, ample enclosed storage and expansive serving surface make the piece suitable as a traditional dining-room buffet, sideboard or statement console. Hickory Chair began in Hickory, North Carolina in 1911, initially producing made-to-order dining chairs before expanding into a broad range of fine wood and upholstered furniture. The company introduced the James River Estate Collection in 1941, drawing inspiration from historic Virginia plantation houses and American and English period furniture. Hickory Chair describes James River as the furniture industry’s longest continuously produced collection.
