1972 MATTEL PUTT-PUTT GOODYEAR TIRE WOOD BLIMP TOY

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > A vintage 1972 Mattel Putt-Putt wooden Goodyear Blimp toy, formed with a solid natural wood airship body, projecting tail fins, four black wheels, and dark blue GOODYEAR graphics with the familiar winged foot emblem. The underside is marked © 1972 MATTEL, INC. ~ KOREA, confirming Mattel production and the country of manufacture. Surviving examples are consistently identified as part of Mattel’s early 1970s Putt-Putt line of preschool wooden vehicles and transportation toys. The stylized form combines the oval body and tail fins of the Goodyear advertising blimp with the simple rolling chassis used throughout the Putt-Putt vehicle series. The durable wood construction, rounded edges, simplified shape, and free-rolling wheels were intended for young children rather than as a detailed scale model. Goodyear began using airships for advertising during the 1920s, and the branded blimp became one of the company’s most recognizable symbols through appearances at sporting events and public gatherings. This licensed Mattel version reflects the strong popular recognition of the Goodyear Blimp during the early 1970s. A distinctive period toy suited for collections of Mattel, Putt-Putt vehicles, Goodyear advertising, wooden toys, transportation miniatures, airships, and 1970s childhood memorabilia.
