Scott #632 is a United States 1¢ Benjamin Franklin definitive postage stamp from the 1926-1928 Rotary Press Issue (part of the Fourth Bureau series extensions).IdentificationDesign: Benjamin Franklin's profile facing left in a circular frame, with "UNITED STATES POSTAGE" arched at the top, "FRANKLIN" below the portrait, and "1 CENT" in numerals at the bottom corners with scrollwork. The color is green (various shades: yellowish green, bright green, olive green, deep green, etc.). Printing/Perforation: Rotary press printing (design slightly larger than flat-plate issues due to the process—typically about 19.5–20 mm wide by 22–22.5 mm tall), perforated 11 horizontally (top/bottom) x 10½ vertically (sides). Unwatermarked. Issue Date: June 10, 1927 (first day in Washington, DC). Purpose/Context: This was issued to replace earlier flat-plate 1¢ Franklins as stocks ran out, using the new rotary perforators. It's part of the 1926-28 rotary series (Scott #632–642 for various values), which introduced perf 11x10½ on sheet stamps for better production efficiency. The same Franklin portrait was reused from prior issues (e.g., #552 flat-plate). Key to distinguish: The perf 11x10½ is the main diagnostic—horizontal perfs are coarser (11) than vertical (10½). This differs from:Flat-plate #552 (perf 11 all sides, smaller design). Rare rotary waste varieties like #596 (perf 11 all sides, rotary-printed, much scarcer and valuable). Coil or booklet versions (e.g., #632a is a booklet pane of 6 with similar perfs).
