Golden Book of Automobile Stamps (also called the Golden Play Book of Automobile Stamps), published 1952 by Simon and Schuster / Golden Press.Author: Nancy Kennedy BondIllustrator: Gordon K. Clifton (sometimes listed as Gordon R. Clifton)Format: Softcover/trade paperback, roughly 8.5" x 11", about 48 pages. Cover price 50¢ (series marking P-2).Contents: A lively short history of the automobile illustrated with 60 full-color “stamp” pictures of cars (old and then-new models) plus 48 black-and-white line drawings meant to be colored. Text describes early makers, models, and innovations (e.g., Haynes-Apperson, Winton, pneumatic tires). Cars on the cover and pages include Lincoln 195X, Waltham Orient 1906, Woods Electric 1899, Duryea 1893, Oldsmobile 1903, Lincoln Zephyr 1941, Ford 1903, Haynes-Apperson 1901, Stutz Bearcat 1914, Winton 1909, Ford Model T 1910, Rolls-Royce 1920, military vehicles, Cadillac 1951, Cord 1931, Jeep, etc. This is one of the Golden Stamp / Golden Play Stamp activity books aimed at children and hobbyists in the early 1950s. The color “stamps” were typically supplied as sheets to be cut out and pasted into the matching spots in the book (or sometimes already affixed). It is not a real postage-stamp album—the images are illustrated reproductions of automobiles presented in stamp-like format. Complete (all or nearly all stamps present, reasonably clean) in good to very good condition: typically $12–25.One recent Poshmark listing for a complete 1952 example in “great shape” was priced at $15.Partial/used examples (some stamps missing, pasted, or coloring done; cover wear/tanning): often $5–15.
