Shade: This is the classic Rose color for Scott #65. The front shows the characteristic rose/pink-rose hue with the typical engraving. Some fading and toning (common on used 1860s stamps) is present, especially around the cancel area, but it remains within the accepted range for #65 (not the deeper rose of #66 or other varieties).Design: Washington profile, ornate lattice frame, “U.S. POSTAGE” top, “THREE CENTS” bottom. Perforated. No other varieties (e.g., grill, different shades like rose pink) appear to match better—this is standard #65.Values (2026)Used (average, as shown with cancel/toning): $10 – $25 (Scott catalog ~$25–$40 for sound used; faults reduce it).Better Used (lighter cancel, sound): $30 – $60+.
