Wayne Gretzky Number 14 Autographed Soo Greyhounds Hockey Jersey – WG Authentics Certified Exceptional Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds hockey jersey personally autographed by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky. Most importantly, this collectible originated from WG Authentics, Wayne Gretzky’s own memorabilia company. The jersey bears an affixed WG Authentics authentication hologram and is accompanied by the corresponding physical Certificate of Authenticity, providing excellent provenance for the signature. The Soo Greyhounds are one of Canada’s most storied major-junior hockey organizations. Based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the club entered the Ontario Hockey League for the 1972–73 season. The Greyhounds have built a proud championship tradition that includes numerous division titles, three OHL playoff championships and the 1993 Memorial Cup, awarded to the champion of the Canadian Hockey League. The Greyhounds name itself dates to shortly after World War I. According to team history, coach George MacNamara selected the name because “a greyhound is much faster than a wolf”—a playful reference to the rival Sudbury Wolves Wayne Gretzky joined the Greyhounds as a 16-year-old for the 1977–78 season and immediately established himself as a generational talent. In only 64 regular-season games, he recorded an extraordinary 70 goals, 112 assists and 182 points, earning OHL Rookie of the Year honors. It was also with the Soo Greyhounds that Gretzky first began wearing his now-legendary No. 99. His preferred No. 9 was already assigned, and after briefly trying Nos. 19 and 14, Greyhounds general manager Angelo Bumbacco suggested doubling the number to 99. Gretzky debuted the number on November 18, 1977, beginning one of the most recognizable number-and-player associations in all of sports. The Greyhounds later retired his No. 99 jersey in 1994. A highly desirable autographed collectible representing not only Gretzky’s remarkable junior career, but also the birthplace of the iconic number 99. An outstanding centerpiece for any serious Wayne Gretzky, Soo Greyhounds, Canadian junior hockey or autographed sports-memorabilia collection. Please note: This jersey is offered as an autographed collectible and is not represented as game-worn or game-issued
