An oil on wood panel painting executed in an impressionistic style, depicting the abbey church of Saint-Pierre de Brantôme in the Dordogne region of France. The composition highlights the distinctive Romanesque bell tower of the church, set against a backdrop of wooded hills and reflected in the calm water of the foreground. The artist has used a palette of muted greys, blues, and earth tones, applied with broad, textured brushstrokes. The reverse of the wooden panel bears several handwritten inscriptions in black ink. The top line reads Eglise Brantôme, followed by a middle line that has been heavily obscured with black markings, and a final line transcribed as L'Alexandrie. The painting is housed in a simple, aged wooden frame with a dark brown finish. An adhesive retail label is present on the lower right corner of the painting surface. Dimensions: approx. 23 cm x 15.2 cm (measured against a tape measure). Condition: The work exhibits significant condition issues including widespread flaking and paint loss across the composition. Significant areas of the underlying wood grain are visible, particularly on the building facade and the lower foreground. The surface shows a light layer of dirt and surface grime throughout. The frame is in a weathered state with visible scuffing, finish loss, and minor surface abrasions.
