A World War I German Empire Iron Cross 2nd Class medal. The cross measures 1.75 inches high and wide, featuring a dark magnetic iron core inside a brass-toned metal frame. The obverse displays a raised imperial crown over the initial W and the date 1914. The reverse features the crown, initials FW, three oak leaves, and the institution year 1813. The medal is suspended from a multi-colored combination ribbon displaying black, white, yellow, and green stripes. Paint loss is present on the iron core, and the frame shows a heavy dark patina. The ribbon exhibits fraying, staining, and a partial paper residue backing. PM/RC
