This pair of Imperial German military officer dress epaulettes features silvered crescent-shaped scales (Schuppen) mounted to dark blue wool backing cloth. Each strap consists of layered metallic scales terminating at a crescent moon border wrapped in heavy silver bullion wire cords with serpentine end accents, topped with a silver-plated dome button set within a decorative crescent motif. The reverse retains its brass screw-post mounting washers and split pins, though the blue wool backing cloth exhibits extensive moth damage, tearing, and severe losses that expose the inner fiber structure and cardboard stiffeners. The silvered metal faces show age tarnish, light surface oxidation, and localized reddish-brown discoloration spot wear. PM
