This mid-20th-century oil on canvas depicts a winter landscape featuring a solitary log cabin set amongst a forest of birch and evergreen trees. The composition is rendered in a tonalist palette of ochre, cream, and earthy brown, with thick impasto highlights applied to the foliage and foreground to simulate the texture of frost and snow. The work is signed W. J. Morter in the lower right corner. The painting is housed in a period frame comprising a dark-stained wood outer moulding, a narrow gilt inner border, and a wide off-white linen-covered slip. An adhesive label is present on the reverse with handwritten annotations. Condition: The painting and canvas support appear to be in good overall condition. There is no significant craquelure, paint loss, or visible surface grime. The frame shows minor signs of age-related wear but remains structurally sound and the linen slip is clean.
