An attractive nineteenth-century hand-coloured steel engraving entitled Eamont Bridge, from the Westmorland Side, after a drawing by celebrated British topographical artist Thomas Allom (1804–1872), engraved by W. Taylor. The picturesque view depicts the historic stone bridge spanning the River Eamont in Cumbria, England, framed by mature riverside trees with figures and cottages enlivening the tranquil rural landscape. Artist Biography Thomas Allom (1804–1872) was an English architect, artist, illustrator, and one of the founding members of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He became internationally recognized for his finely detailed topographical drawings, which were engraved and published in numerous travel books throughout the Victorian period. His illustrations documented landscapes and architecture throughout Britain, Europe, the Near East, and Asia, appearing in celebrated works such as Constantinople and the Scenery of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor, China Illustrated, and numerous British county views. Today, his original engravings remain highly collectible for their artistic quality, historical interest, and decorative appeal.
