Artist Biography: James Jervis Blomfield, OSA (1872–1951) was a distinguished Canadian painter, etcher, illustrator, and architectural draftsman. Born in London, England, he immigrated to Canada in the late nineteenth century and became one of the country's foremost architectural etchers.Blomfield studied at the South Kensington School of Art before settling in Toronto, where he established a successful career illustrating and recording Canada's historic architecture. He was elected a member of the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) and became widely recognized for his meticulously detailed etchings of historic homes, churches, civic buildings, and streetscapes throughout Ontario.His works are represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, Library and Archives Canada, and other Canadian institutions. Today, Blomfield is regarded as one of Canada's finest early twentieth-century printmakers, with his original etchings remaining highly sought after by collectors of Canadian historical and architectural art.
