A late 19th-century French Rococo Revival picture frame constructed of gilt composition over a wooden substrate. The design features high-relief acanthus scrolls, shell motifs, and foliate flourishes in a burnished gold-tone finish. One detached fragment of the ornamentation is included with the lot.Exterior: 33.5 x 29 inchesInterior rabbet: 17 x 21.5 inches.Significant losses to the composition ornamentation are present, particularly at the corners and along the edges. The underlying gesso and wood are exposed in multiple areas. Visible surface cracking, minor flaking to the gilt finish, and general wear are consistent with age.
