This hand-colored etching and engraving titled Le Serment d'Amour was executed by Jean Mathieu after the original composition by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. The Rococo scene depicts a young couple in a passionate embrace within a woodland setting, attended by several putti near a stone plinth. Inscriptions in the lower margin identify the artist and engraver, along with publication details for the Parisian publisher at Cloitre St. Benoit and the Maison de M. Denecourt. The print is presented in an oval format within a period wood frame.Frame: 11 x 14 inches.The paper exhibits significant overall browning and toning with prominent scattered foxing across the image area and margins. Light fading is visible to the hand-applied color highlights. The wood frame is in poor condition.
