Handmade Calaca Diorama. This diorama is a traditional Mexican shadow box used to honor the deceased during Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). These hand-made boxes serve as miniature theaters or "stages" that capture scenes from everyday life. Has working hand crank to make the figures move. It is hand-painted and hand-assembled with mixed media components including painted wood, thin cupboard figures, cotton hair accents, crepe/paper flowers, and decorative paper coverings. Provenance: Private collection.The piece is in good vintage condition. There is minor surface wear throughout, including light scuffs to the paint and small nicks to the wooden edges consistent with age and handling. A light layer of dust is present on both the interior and exterior surfaces. The paper and corn husk decorative elements show slight creasing and age-related discoloration.
