A set of five hand-painted polychrome Aesthetic Movement Haviland Limoges plates that are colorful works of art. A set of 5 molded porcelain plates that have been hand painted in an Aesthetic Movement style with birds, gilt panels, landscapes and many flowers. It has a Japanese aesthetic. The birds are so minutely painted with many different colors. There is a golden pheasant, hummingbirds, sparrows and thrushes. There are insects flying about. The scalloped mouth rim edges are gilded. The shallow, unglazed feet have a small amount of grit adhering. H & Co. appears on the bottoms of three of the plates. This Hallmark for Haviland & Co (of Limoge, France) is underlined once on one plate and twice on two others. The hallmark with the single underline was used in 1877. The one with the double underline was used between 1876 and 1886. MEASUREMENTS 9 ½ in (24.1 cm) diameter x 7/8 in (2.2 cm) deep. Weighs 4 lbs 14.2 oz. CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, breaks or repairs on any of the plates. The plates have some gilt wear along their rims. The plate with the sparrow has a loss of gilt on the gold panel. An artistic, hand painted set of plates to add to a collection or display in your China hutch. The bird paintings are little gems.
