A deeply molded figure of Guanyin with such a thick, creamy, very soft glaze. A very white paste has been used to make a molding of Guanyin the Goddess of mercy. She rests on a rock by the sea. There is much detail such as beads, the hair, the clothing folds, facial features, the hand, and even on the back. The figure rests flat on its cut base. There are no impressed marks or paper labels. There are two partial Chinese characters in red on the inside base. MEASUREMENTS 9 ½" (24.1 cm) tall x 2 ¾" (7.0 cm) wide x 2" (5.1 cm) deep. Weighs 15.9 oz (455 g) CONDITION There is a chip in the hair, and I believe a portion of the hair ornament is missing. One fingertip and the tip of her thumb is missing. There is a kiln flaw in the form of a crack that extends from the base in the interior. The crack is fairly deep and you can see it through a deep fold in her robe on the outside. A thin hairline extends approximately 1" from the deep fold. There are no other chips, cracks, or breaks. A very elaborate Guanyin to decorate with. I love the very soft feeling glaze. Period: Early 20th Century Origin: China Materials: Porcelain Dimensions: 2.75"W × 2"D × 9.5"H
