An 18TH century Chinese blue & white porcelain ginger jar, decorated with a harbor scene. It is a hands-on Chinese ginger jar that is provincially made and has a quick naive style of painting. The hand thrown porcelain jar has a raised lip and has been decorated in under glaze cobalt blue. The color of cobalt borders on gray. The design is very abstract with a boat on the water, mountains and a house with people. The mouth rim has a rain pattern border. Below the mouth, is an unglazed ring for a lid The foot is unglazed and rough. The base is glazed. The glaze is very soft and smooth from age. There is a large, faint mark on the base that I can't see clearly. MEASUREMENTS 6 ½ in (16.5 cm) diameter x 6 ¼ in (15.9 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lb 2.2 oz. CONDITION There are no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs. The jar displays significant crazing and some discoloration. There are manufacture errors of pin holes, glaze misses, painting errors and a dimple in the wall just under the painting of a structure with the two figures. An authentic testament to 18th century provincial craftsmanship—where every brushstroke tells a story of Chinese ceramic tradition. Period: Late 18th Century Origin: China Materials: Ceramic Dimensions: 6.5"W × 6.5"D × 6.25"H
