A colorful antique teapot with hand-painted designs of birds, fruit, roses, butterflies, and garden scenes. The designs are very well painted with strong shading. The composition leaves very little surface unpainted! The gilding is intact and gives some glitter to the over glaze enamel paintings. Two porcelain flanges with holes hold a pair of metal handles that have been wrapped with rope. The spout end has an iron coating for strength. The foot is shallow and unglazed, and the base is glazed. A circular lid without a finial rests on the mouth of the base. The rim and interior of the mouth, as well as the underside of the lid are unglazed. The teapot has no hallmarks. Although this general style of teapot is fairly common, this teapot is better executed than most. The painting, especially, is quite good. MEASUREMENTS 6 7/8 in (17.5 cm) wide x 5 in (12.7 cm) diameter x 6 ¼ in (15.9 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lbs. 15.4 oz. CONDITION There are no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs. There is one very small glaze frit at the edge of the spout. The glazes show very little wear and very little staining to the inside of the teapot. There is some wear to the cotton on the ends on the handles. A colorful and intricately painted teapot from the first half of the 19th century. Period: Mid 19th Century Origin: Chile Materials: Porcelain Dimensions: 6.88"W × 5"D × 6.25"H
