An adorable inkwell of a pug dog smoking a pipe and outfitted with a large napkin. I love the brown glass eyes. The cast metal inkwell is in the shape of a pug or bulldog was then silver plated. Because of the age and polishing, it is now devoid of silver. He still has his bulging brown glass eyes. These are connected by wires inside the head. His head is hinged and tips back to reveal the inkwell with the original glass insert. The pen would have rested on his rather large napkin. The funny dog has a pipe in his mouth giving him an anthropomorphic look. The underside of the inkwell is open with no felt. There are two small feet that make the inkwell rest flat on a surface. The mark "J.B" and number "688" have been molded into the bottom The Jennings Brothers began their metalwork foundry in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1891 and remained open until the early 1950s. Jennings Brothers produced some of the most finely crafted art metal pieces that exist to this day. MEASUREMENTS 5 ½ in (14.0 cm) wide x 5 1/2 in (14.0 cm) deep x 3 ¾ in (9.5 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lbs 0.4 oz. CONDITION There are no breaks, dents, cracks, or repairs to the inkwell. The lid wobbles a little but is still fairly tight. The glass ink receptacle has a small chip on the rim. The inkwell has little to no silver plating remaining. There is residue from polish in some of the recesses. A must have inkwell for the collector. He is just too funny. A well-crafted inkwell is perfect for collectors or those who appreciate unique and charming desk accessories. Period: Early 20th Century Origin: United States Materials: Metal Dimensions: 5.5"W × 5.5"D × 3.75"H
