Title: Three-Eyed Grinning Face with Orange Tongue on Lavender Technique: Acrylic on masonite Measures: 16 x 14 inches (40.6 x 35.6 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with even, flat coloration and bold black linework; visible brush marks are present in the white passages of the eyes and teeth. A few small specks and minor surface marks are visible across the lavender ground, and slight wear is visible at the upper left corner. No significant paint losses or cracks are apparent in the available images. Light handling marks and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a white wooden frame with an angled profile, showing minor scuffs and surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection, Rome; private acquisition, London Visual Description: A bold, graphic image of a cartoon face set within a hand-drawn black rectangular border on a flat field of soft lavender and lilac. Three tall, arched eyes in white, each outlined in thick black and crossed by a horizontal pupil line that suggests a sly, sidelong glance, sit side by side across the upper half of the panel, capped by three curved black brows. Below them, a wavy line forms a broad nose flanked by curling cheek marks, and an enormous crescent grin stretches nearly the full width of the composition. The black mouth is lined with a row of square white teeth, and a long, bright orange tongue, outlined in black with a central dividing line, lolls out from the right corner of the mouth and extends past the edge of the border toward the lower right. The heavy, uniform contours, flat areas of unmodulated color, and limited palette of lavender, black, white, and orange give the image the immediacy of a sign or emblem. The humorous, exaggerated features and direct, graffiti-derived drawing style reflect the visual language of 1980s Pop and street art. The lower right bears a painted inscription reading "K. Haring 83," followed by a circled cross symbol. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
