Title: Double Portrait of a Woman in Multicolor Outline on Black Technique: Silkscreen on canvas Measures: 18 x 28 inches (45.7 x 71.1 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with bright, saturated color accents and a dense black ground showing visible brushed and swept passages. No significant paint losses or tears are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Collection Visual Description: A horizontal composition presenting two side-by-side, head-and-shoulders images of the same woman, rendered as bright fragments of color emerging from a dense black ground. The features of each face, arched brows, heavy-lidded eyes, nostrils, and full, open lips, are picked out in flat, printed shapes, while the rest of the face dissolves into darkness. On the left, the hair is described in jagged shapes of tangerine and golden orange, with orange features and lips touched with turquoise, and a band of cobalt and cerulean wrapping the neck and shoulder. On the right, the face is defined in crimson and red-orange, with golden yellow lips and a band of yellow and orange along the jaw and neck, while splashes of lime green flicker in the hair at upper right. Between the two heads, broad gestural sweeps of turquoise, red, and black overlap the printed imagery, and scattered flecks of green, orange, and blue punctuate the surface. The repetition of a glamorous photographic image, the stark contrast between vivid color and black, and the mechanical, slightly misregistered printing recall the graphic vocabulary of Pop Art celebrity portraiture and its exploration of fame and reproduction. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
