Desdemona Scene. An original hand-colored theatrical etching, believed to be nineteenth century, presenting othello and desdemona, likely from Othello. The individual performers have not been verified. Othello imagery was especially popular in nineteenth-century theatrical portraiture, documenting the visual language of tragic roles. Man in plum court dress lifts an arm beside a kneeling woman in white before richly draped interior architecture. The composition is presented on a cream paper sheet measuring 10 x 12 inches overall; image dimensions have not been provided. Scene matches lot 38; sitter identification not independently visible for this impression. Visible condition: Toning with scattered discoloration and small edge wear. Review all supplied photographs for paper margins, lettering and details. The identical composition appears as lot 38; this is cataloged separately as its own physical impression.
