Battlefield Scene. An original hand-colored theatrical etching, believed to be nineteenth century, presenting battlefield drama from Henry IV, Part I, possibly. The individual performers have not been verified. Such actor-in-character images were popular theatrical keepsakes and now appeal to collectors of historic drama and costume. One armed man in a bright scarlet-and-yellow costume raises a sword over a blue-clad fallen combatant on a battlefield. The composition is presented on a cream paper sheet measuring 10 x 12 inches overall; image dimensions have not been provided. Handwritten bottom caption too faint for secure attribution. Visible condition: Prominent stains, broad toned areas, softened or damaged lower left corner and surface marks. Review all supplied photographs for paper margins, lettering and details. The broad battlefield composition is theatrical rather than a photographic record of warfare.
