French Civilization: From Its Origins to the Close of the Middle Ages by Albert Léon Guérard is an antique history hardcover published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1921. Contemporary bibliographic records describe the original edition as approximately 328 pages. This book provides a detailed history of French civilization from its earliest origins through the end of the Middle Ages. Topics include prehistoric and Celtic France, Roman influence, Christianity, the Franks and Charlemagne, feudalism, the French monarchy, medieval society and culture, language and literature, art and architecture, the Crusades, the Hundred Years’ War, and other developments that shaped medieval France. Vintage blue-green/teal cloth-bound hardcover with embossed emblem and markings. No dust jacket or folding maps are present. The book is in fair antique/pre-owned condition with substantial age and shelf wear. Covers show some fading and discoloration, rubbing, staining, marks, bumped and frayed corners, worn edges, and heavier wear around the spine ends and hinges. The rear cover has noticeable horizontal impressions/creasing. Page edges are heavily browned and age-toned. The book remains intact, but its century-plus age and visible wear should be considered when handling.
