Bestselling nonfiction paperback by investigative journalist Eric Schlosser, published by Perennial/HarperCollins. This copy is ISBN 0-06-093845-5 (9780060938451) and includes the “new afterword.” The copyright page states that the hardcover was originally published in 2001 and the first Perennial edition appeared in 2002. The printing line shown indicates this is a later printing rather than a first printing. An investigative examination of the American fast-food industry and its influence on food production, labor, agriculture, public health, marketing, popular culture, and the American landscape. Schlosser traces the industry's development from early fast-food restaurants through large-scale meat processing and food manufacturing, while examining working conditions, corporate practices, advertising, and the social consequences he attributes to the industry's growth. The book became a major bestseller and remains in print in newer editions. Fair to Good used condition. The binding is intact and serviceable, but the paperback has substantial reading and shelf wear. The front cover is noticeably curled and warped with creasing, rubbing, worn edges and corners, and small areas of peeling/chipping. The spine has edge and end wear but remains readable. The page block shows considerable age-toning and yellowing, particularly around the outer edges, along with some light handling marks. Interior pages are readable and appear generally clean, with no obvious highlighting, writing, major tears, or water damage.
