Hardcover with red cloth spine, white boards and gold spine lettering. A late-1990s natural-health reference examining research available at the time on herbs, vitamins, dietary supplements and other alternative or complementary remedies. Carper discusses their proposed uses and scientific evidence then available for various health concerns. Because medical and supplement research has changed substantially since 1997, the book is best treated today as a vintage health reference, not as current medical guidance. The book remains in print in later formats, and the publisher describes it as presenting scientific evidence concerning herbs, vitamins and natural remedies. Good used condition overall. The binding is firm and the interior pages are clean, bright and unmarked. The white boards have noticeable surface dirt, gray smudging, scuffs and spotting, including a circular mark near the upper front cover. There is moderate edge and corner wear, with some rubbing and fraying at the spine ends. The page block is quite clean. The primary drawbacks are the soiled white covers and missing original dust jacket.
