This lot is a mix of science, oceanography, anthropology, and astronomy/cosmology books spanning roughly the 1960s through the early 2000s. The books are useful as reference or reading copies. Condition varies across the books; however, pages and binding are intact and secure. Bundle includes: 1. The Sea by Leonard Engel and the Editors of Time-Life Books, Life Nature Library. Hardcover, later printing with a 1973 manufacture statement. Approximately 190 pages. Heavily illustrated introduction to ocean science and marine life, covering the origin of the sea, underwater landscapes, currents, waves and tides, marine food chains, sharks, marine mammals, and humanity's relationship with the oceans. The Sea has substantial rubbing and edge wear to the pictorial boards, heavily worn/frayed corners, exposed board material, spine wear and an owner's name/address written on the title page. 2. Fundamentals of Oceanography, Second Edition by Alison B. Duxbury & Alyn C. Duxbury. Wm. C. Brown Publishers, copyright 1996; ISBN 0-697-26671-0. College-level oceanography textbook covering the physical, geological, chemical and biological aspects of oceans, including seawater, waves, tides, currents, ocean basins and marine environments. Fundamentals of Oceanography is Fair used condition with extensive cover rubbing, scratches and creasing, worn corners/edges, used-book stickers, some staining/soiling at the bottom of the opening pages, and a small handwritten notation. The pages and covers show considerable handling wear. 3. Biological Anthropology, Third Edition, by Michael Alan Park. McGraw-Hill/Mayfield, copyright 2002; ISBN 0-7674-2594-4. An introductory college textbook on biological and physical anthropology. It uses the scientific method to introduce human evolution, primates, fossils, genetics, biological variation and related subjects. Biological Anthropology is approximately Good used condition. It has cover rubbing, edge and corner wear, a pronounced lower-right cover crease/bend, and multiple large used-bookstore/barcode stickers on the back. Interior pages shown appear relatively clean. 4. Modern Theories of the Universe by James A. Coleman. Signet Science Library paperback, first printing, May 1963, illustrated by the author. A vintage popular-science treatment of cosmology, discussing competing ideas about the origin and structure of the universe, including evolutionary and Big Bang concepts and continuous-creation theories, as understood in the early 1960s. This book has some added vintage science-history interest. Modern Theories of the Universe is Fair vintage condition. The paperback has substantial cover and spine creasing, rubbing, edge wear and age toning. The text pages are noticeably yellowed, and there is interior handwriting on an early page.
