This short snorter is on a mixed group including a U.S. one-dollar Silver Certificate, Philippine Victory Series one- and two-peso notes, a Japanese Government one-peso note, and a Commonwealth of Australia ten-shilling note. This is part of a large collection of Short Snorters. A Short Snorter is a piece of currency signed by fellow servicemen, friends, or traveling companions as a souvenir of shared experiences. The tradition became especially popular among American military personnel during World War II, when soldiers and airmen collected signatures on U.S. and foreign banknotes as they traveled from country to country. Notes were sometimes taped together end-to-end, creating long “short snorter” rolls that served as a personal record of wartime friendships, units, locations, and travels.
