Mixed group of Japanese Government and military currency notes, including Philippine peso and Japanese yen and sen denominations. This is part of a large collection of Short Snorters. A Short Snorter is a piece of currency signed by fellow servicemen, friends, or traveling companions as a souvenir of shared experiences. The tradition became especially popular among American military personnel during World War II, when soldiers and airmen collected signatures on U.S. and foreign banknotes as they traveled from country to country. Notes were sometimes taped together end-to-end, creating long “short snorter” rolls that served as a personal record of wartime friendships, units, locations, and travels.
