Title: Riverbank with Flowering Shrubs and Reflections Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 17 x 37 inches (43.2 x 94.0 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in good overall condition. The surface shows thick, layered impasto with short, broken strokes and vivid color. Minor surface wear may be present. The reverse shows toning, a central stretcher bar, applied labels and stamp marks. Presented in an ornate carved gold-toned frame with scalloped and ribbed relief. Provenance: Private collection, Athens, Greece. Visual Description: An Impressionist-inspired river landscape in a wide horizontal format, with still water stretching across the center and right. Along the far bank, a row of slender blue-violet trunks rises beneath a canopy of green, yellow and orange foliage, set against a pale lavender sky. Below the trees, low shrubs are laid in with dabs of white, yellow, turquoise and red. The water reflects the bank in horizontal strokes of lavender, yellow, pink and green. At the left, a dense mass of flowering plants in white, orange, violet and green spills toward the water, and spiky leaves and small orange blossoms line the foreground. The work bears an inscription reading “Claude Monet” in black at the lower right. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
