Peter Max Mixed Media on Paper

Updated October 15, 2026

Title: Cosmic Sunrise Over the Valley Technique: Mixed media on paper Measures: 21 x 29.5 cm (8.3 x 11.6 inches) Year: Undated Inscription: Bears a “Max”-style inscription in the upper-right corner. Condition: Visible light surface wear, minor handling marks and slight paper toning. Areas of uneven pigment and small surface irregularities are present. Colors remain vivid and the composition presents well. Condition should be confirmed through firsthand examination. Provenance: From a private Georgia collection. According to family recollection, the work was acquired with a group of Pop and psychedelic-style artworks during gallery visits in New York City, United States, in the early 2000s. Precise acquisition details and earlier ownership records were not preserved. Visual Description: An enormous red-orange sun rises above a brightly colored landscape of rolling green hills, flowing blue water and clusters of stylized trees. White clouds and birds cross the vivid blue sky, while broad areas of yellow, turquoise, purple and red create a radiant, dreamlike atmosphere. Saturated color, simplified natural forms and cosmic imagery evoke the psychedelic Pop aesthetic and optimistic visual language associated with Peter Max. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
