37"H x 20" D x 39" W Louis XV style carved oak slant-front secrétaire, likely late 19th century. The fall front is centered by a pierced rocaille cartouche with scrolling foliage and shell-carved corners. Below are two tiers of serpentine drawers with foliate-carved reserves and round central bosses, above a shaped carved apron and cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. The fitted interior contains small drawers with brass knobs. An engraved brass presentation plaque reads “N'oublions jamais l'anniversaire de notre bon pépère 21 septembre 1885,” providing a period date reference, with another element engraved “Milene.” Darkened patina with rubbing to the carved high points. Chips and light scratches to the writing surface.
