[BOSTON TEA PARTY.] The Boston Evening-Post. Monday, November 1, 1773. Number 1988. Printed by Thomas and John Fleet. Bifolium, 4 pp. 9 3/4 x 15 1/2 inches. Provenance: Mr. Isaac ?Beevs (contemporary ownership signature). An article page one describes the determination of the East India Company to ship tea to the colonies “notwithstanding the virtuous resolution of the Americans not to import tea, while it remained subject to the payment of a duty in America,” and reports that “the inhabitants of this city, assembled at the State House, on Saturday last, and unanimously entered” into several resolves, among them: “That the duty imposed by parliament upon tea landed in America, is a tax on the Americans, or levying contribution on them, without their consent;” and “That it is the duty of every American to oppose this attempt.” Just over a month later, on December 16, 1773, a number of members of the Sons of Liberty made good on the latter resolve, dumping over 340 chests of East India Company tea into Boston Harbor. Condition Chipping along edges, old dampstaining, centerfold beginning to separate.
