AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage RICHÈRE hand beaded evening purse, Hand Made in Japan, with body measuring 8.75" wide x 4" tall. The exterior is densely covered in tiny ivory white seed beads arranged in flowing wave and scallop patterns, with a delicate floral spray worked across the front in muted peach, blush, pale green and yellow tones. The purse is fitted with a structured metal frame and double ball clasp, each clasp top mounted with a clear rhinestone. A matching multi strand beaded handle is attached by hinged mounts, allowing the handle to fold inward and be concealed inside the purse, converting the bag from a handled evening purse to a clutch. The reverse is fully beaded in the same ivory pattern without the floral decoration. The interior is lined in pale satin with a small pocket and retains the original sewn RICHÈRE ~ HAND MADE IN JAPAN label. Richère was a documented mid century handbag merchant manufacturer whose beaded evening bags were produced in Japan during the 1950s. Museum records date a Japanese Richère bag to 1955–1960, while surviving examples also appear under the wording “Richere Bag by Walborg,” indicating a distribution or branding relationship with Walborg during the period. This example fits that documented tradition of finely beaded Japanese evening bags made for the American and international fashion market. The dense hand beadwork, satin lining, rhinestone mounted clasp, convertible folding handle and compact formal silhouette are all characteristic of elegant 1950s cocktail and evening purses. CONDITION REPORT > Very good vintage condition overall. Beadwork remains dense and attractive, floral decoration is well defined, satin interior presents well, rhinestones remain mounted to the clasp, and the hinged beaded handle folds inward as designed.
