18th -19th Century Folding Hand Fan, Crafted with intricate structural and decorative elements Key Characteristics Folding fan.Leaf (Mount): The pleated upper section is made of a light-colored fabric or vellum. It is accented with delicate floral motifs and a border that shows typical signs of aging. Sticks & Guards: The underlying supportive frame (sticks) and the sturdier outer protective pieces (guards) appear to be made of carved bone or ivory, showcasing detailed openwork pierced detailing near the base. Rivet & Tassel: The bottom pivot point secures the sticks together, accompanied by an attached loop and a weathered fabric handle strap or tassel for carrying Observed Visual Damage Structural Breaches: There is noticeable damage to the upper leaf (mount), specifically in the central area above the sticks, where parts of the material have torn or broken away completely. Separation: The delicate leaf material is pulling away and detaching from the underlying support sticks at multiple crease points.
