Magnificent hand-carved and painted wooden kachina sculpture depicting the Crow Mother, also known as Angwusnasomtaka. Measuring 13.75 inches tall, this intricate piece features detailed wings spanning 5 inches wide, a 2-inch wide body, and a stable 3.5-inch base. In traditional Southwestern culture (frequently associated with Hopi and Navajo carving traditions), the Crow Mother is a figure of great dignity and importance, typically appearing during child initiation ceremonies and various seasonal dances. She is easily recognized by her distinct tiered case mask, prominent crow wing adornments, and traditional symbols representing life, rain, and agriculture. The sculpture is hand-signed by the artist on the bottom base. A wonderful, collectible piece of Native American folk art showcasing traditional wood carving and painting techniques.
