An Assortment of Devon Motto Ware Ceramics

Updated September 22, 2026

This English earthenware group features the cottage pattern in cream slip with hand painted thatched houses and trees. Each piece is decorated with blue bands and brown script inscriptions including regional references to Torquay and Looe alongside various proverbs. The set includes a teapot, mugs, pitchers, bowls, a jam pot, egg cup, and a cruet stand with shakers. One bowl base is impressed with Devon Motto Ware England in a square, while others are stamped Made in England. Most pieces exhibit significant surface crazing throughout. The Torquay pitcher rim and egg cup stand foot have visible chips. A mug features dark brown staining to the cream slip.
