Collins, Elisabeth Ward (British, 1904-2000). A Boy’s Head. Gouache and chalk. Signed lower right, notation on backing verso. 11" x 8 3/4" (Image). 16 3/8" x 13 3/8" (Frame). In a wood frame. Not examined out of frame. Elisabeth Ward Collins was a British painter and sculptor whose mystical, dreamlike works drew on folklore, fantasy, and Surrealist influences. Trained at Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art under Henry Moore, she was a founding member of the Cambridge Society of Painters and Sculptors and, though often overshadowed by her husband Cecil Collins, gained increasing recognition later in life, with works acquired by the Tate.
