Abeles, Sigmund (American, 1934-2025). Deep Thinking. Etching and drypoint. 56/65, circa 1966. From Toward the End: A Suite of Etchings. Limited edition portfolio, published 1969 by Aquarius Press. 9 1/2" x 7 1/4" (Sight). 17 1/4" x 14 5/8" (Frame). Matted in a wood frame. Not examined out of frame. Additional impressions from the suite are available in this auction. Sigmund Abeles was an American figurative artist whose drawings, prints, pastels, and sculptures probe the emotional and psychological depth of the human figure. A lifelong advocate for expressive realism, he exhibited widely and earned major awards, with work now held in institutions including the Met, MFA Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Whitney.
