This full-size violin features a striking two-piece flamed maple back and a fine-grained spruce top finished in reddish-brown varnish. The internal white adhesive label identifies the maker as Ignatz Horvath of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, dating the piece to circa 1920. Complete with ebony fittings, this American-made instrument displays lovely craftsmanship and regional historical appeal for enthusiasts of Pennsylvania string instruments. This instrument displays gentle surface wear and varnish abrasions consistent with age (Photo 2). It is presented in non-functional condition, needing a bridge and professional setup to sing once again (Photo 1). Overall, a solid project piece.
