beautiful matched pair of antique Victorian-era opaline glass vases. Dimension: 11 1/2"H. The vases are crafted from milky, semi-translucent white opaline glass (cristal opalin). This medium was highly prized in 19th-century Europe for its smooth, porcelain-like appearance combined with a delicate glass-like luminescence. Each vase features an abundant, intricately detailed central floral bouquet. The arrangements display a vibrant mix of roses, marigolds, anemones, and blue field flowers mixed with lush green foliage. The slight variations in layout between the two vases underscore that they were painstakingly hand-enameled rather than stamped. The trumpet-style rim is accented by a distinctive red-and-white spiral candy-stripe pattern wrapped tightly around the lip, creating a playful yet structured frame at the top. The body tapers down into a flared circular foot. The base is decorated with a vibrant turquoise-blue ring bordered by delicate gilt (gold leaf) bands, grounding the composition with classic Victorian color contrasts. These baluster-form pieces represent the peak of French decorative glass techniques from around 1860–1880.
