Exceptional Mid-Century Modern teak serving tray designed by celebrated Danish designer Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs, showcasing the refined sculptural simplicity and functional craftsmanship that made Quistgaard one of the defining figures of postwar Scandinavian design. Crafted in richly grained teak, the tray features an elongated surfboard or boat-form profile with subtly pointed ends, gently bowed sides, and a shallow curved body that gives the piece an elegant aerodynamic appearance. Large integrated oval hand grips are cut directly through each end, preserving the uninterrupted sculptural quality of the design while providing practical carrying handles. A pair of slender raised rails follows the long curved edges of the tray, creating a distinctive architectural border and helping contain serving pieces while reinforcing the flowing lines of the overall form. The broad central field displays attractive natural teak grain in warm reddish-brown and golden tones, while the underside mirrors the clean sculptural construction with corresponding raised support rails. The underside retains the impressed maker’s mark reading “DANSK DESIGNS DENMARK IHQ,” identifying the piece as an authentic Quistgaard design produced in Denmark; IHQ represents Jens Harald Quistgaard’s well-known identifying mark used on Dansk production. A classic example of 1960s Danish Modern design, this tray successfully combines organic form, practical function, and understated craftsmanship and would make a strong addition to a collection of Quistgaard, Dansk, Scandinavian Modern, or Mid-Century decorative arts. The tray remains structurally sound and displays light surface scuffs, minor scratches, small areas of finish wear, and modest rubbing around the edges and hand openings consistent with age and normal use, with no major cracks or repairs observed.
