Itzchak Tarkay (Israeli, 1935-2012), "Jacqueline," an impressive large-format hand-signed and numbered color serigraph on paper, pencil signed "Tarkay" at the lower right and numbered 34/350 at the lower left. The title is confirmed by documented examples of this identical composition from the same edition, including an auction-recorded impression numbered 142/350 and specialist gallery listings identifying "Jacqueline" as an approximately 44 x 30 inch limited-edition serigraph. Presented within an elegant black mat with fine gilt-rule detailing, measuring 51 x 36 1/2 inches overall.

Among the large figurative compositions for which Tarkay achieved international recognition, "Jacqueline" is particularly representative of the artist's sophisticated vocabulary of color, pattern and feminine elegance. The composition centers upon a stylish seated woman wearing a soft pink hat, brilliant red lipstick and an elaborate necklace, her patterned dress rendered through richly layered passages of rose, violet, turquoise, ochre and green. Behind her, luxuriant oversized foliage, a vivid yellow vessel and sweeping fields of saturated crimson, emerald, blue and lavender dissolve conventional interior space into an exuberant arrangement of decorative form and color.

Tarkay's distinctive treatment of the female figure combines flattened pictorial space, elegant contour, heightened color and an atmosphere of cultivated leisure - qualities closely associated with the Post-Impressionist and Fauvist traditions that informed his mature work. In "Jacqueline," the sitter's calm, almost dreamlike reserve provides a compelling counterpoint to the surrounding intensity of pattern and color. Her pale face, downcast eyes and sharply defined red lips become the visual anchor of a composition that is simultaneously intimate and theatrical, decorative and psychologically suggestive.

The present impression is especially desirable for its substantial scale, low edition number 34/350, visible hand signature, individually inscribed edition notation, beautifully preserved deckled sheet edges and immediately recognizable Tarkay subject matter. The strong vertical format and unusually expansive composition give the work a commanding wall presence substantially beyond that of the artist's smaller graphic editions. Large signed Tarkay serigraphs depicting fashionable women in richly appointed interiors remain one of the most recognizable and actively collected areas of his graphic oeuvre.

The work retains strong, vivid coloration and a clean presentation, with no obvious tears, significant staining or major creasing visible. The graphite signature and edition number remain clearly legible. The sheet has not been examined outside of its matting.
